In this piece, I combined an acrylic pour marble technique with a realistic painting style to blend realism and abstraction. I decided to make a mountain landscape because I loved how one of my previous mountain paintings came out, and I knew I could do even better. The flowing marble patterns represent the unpredictable movement of water. I added highlights to the right side of the mountains and trees to create depth and show how light interacts with the landscape.

Echoes of Water

For this painting, I created the concept of a dried riverbed using an acrylic pour painting style. In this style, silicone oil is applied to the paint to create small circles (cells) in the piece, which represent cracks in a dry riverbed. In the background, I painted sand dunes to set the scene of the piece in the desert. To add contrast to the piece, I painted a bright blue sky. The piece captures the effect of drought and shows how landscapes hold the memory of water long after it has vanished.

Sand Becomes Sea

Using plaster, a marble, and acrylic paint, I created an abstract beach scene. The blue acrylic pour was created by rolling a marble around in the paint. It represents the flow and movement of water. The textured plaster forms the shape of waves crashing on the shore. However, the waves are painted in sand tones and the “beach” is represented by the blue pour which doubles and also represents water, creating a reversed abstract natural scene. I pushed the limits of abstraction with this piece.

Roots of Repetition

For this piece, I used acrylic and lino-block printing to create a mixed-media tree. I painted the background and trunk of the tree with acrylic. For the leaves, I carved a lino block and repeatedly printed the same block over the branches, in different shades of green. This shows the repetition of nature and how trees repeatedly produce beautiful natural forms. The tree stem serves as a solid structure for the leaves to grow. The piece shows how nature can be both structured and always evolving.

Mountain Serenity

This was my first ever painting where I attempted to create a realistic representation. Before this, I only painted acrylic pour art, well in my comfort zone. I wanted to do something a little different and try a new art style. So for this piece, I created a Bob Ross themed mountain landscape. However, I didn't want to leave my acrylic pour style behind. Because of that, I decided to perform a marble acrylic pour to represent water and show its movement. This piece sparked an interest in mixing realism and abstraction in the same composition. I went on to explore this new theme in other pieces.
